The formulas
A circle of radius r has area = π r², circumference = 2π r, and diameter = 2r. The area grows with the square of the radius, so doubling r quadruples the area. For the full explanation see the circle area guide and circumference guide.

Worked example
For radius r = 5: the area is π · 5² = 25π ≈ 78.54, the circumference is 2π · 5 = 10π ≈ 31.42, and the diameter is 2 · 5 = 10. Press Try an example above to load r = 5.

Frequently asked questions
What is the formula for the area of a circle? Area = π r², where r is the radius and π ≈ 3.14159.
How do I find the area from the diameter? Halve the diameter to get the radius (r = d / 2), then use π r².
What is the circumference? The distance around the circle, 2π r (equivalently π d).
